The Story Behind HLG

Born from a lifelong passion for animals — a commitment to helping them live happier, healthier and more comfortable lives.

A Life Lived Alongside Animals

HLG Veterinary Physiotherapy was born from a lifelong passion for animals and a desire to help them live happier, healthier and more comfortable lives.

Growing up, I was surrounded by animals. Because of this, I have spent my life caring for a wide variety of species, including dogs, horses, cats, birds, reptiles, small animals, farm animals, peacocks and even capuchin monkeys. Looking after animals has always been second nature to me – it isn’t just my profession, it’s simply a way of life.

From an early age, I discovered that what I loved most was building trust with animals. In addition, I wanted to give them the time, care and attention they deserved.

From the Start Line to the Treatment Table

My journey into veterinary physiotherapy was heavily influenced by my involvement in sprint sleddog sports. I started competing for Team GB at the age of 13 and have since owned 12 Siberian Huskies, currently sharing my life with a team of 9 canine athletes.

Training and competing with these incredible dogs sparked a fascination with movement, biomechanics, conditioning, rehabilitation and injury prevention. As a result, I quickly realised how important proactive care is. It helps animals stay fit, strong and healthy throughout their working careers, while also supporting them as they grow older.

Watching my own dogs develop through their racing careers, and then supporting them through their senior years, reinforced something I feel strongly about. Too often, changes in movement or muscle loss are simply accepted as “just old age”. However, there is so much we can do to improve comfort, preserve strength, and slow the progression of degenerative conditions such as arthritis. Ageing should not simply mean accepting pain, weakness or a loss of mobility!

My Journey into Veterinary Physiotherapy

I completed my A Levels in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics before undertaking a four-year Integrated Master's Degree in Veterinary Physiotherapy at ARU Writtle University. There, I developed the knowledge and practical skills needed to assess, treat and rehabilitate a wide range of musculoskeletal and mobility conditions.

Today, I am a Masters Qualified and RAMP Registered Veterinary Physiotherapist. I also regularly undertake Continuing Professional Development (CPD), so my knowledge and clinical skills remain current and evidence-based. This allows me to deliver the highest standard of care.

Alongside my physiotherapy work, I hold a certification in Emmi-PET Canine Ultrasound Teeth Cleaning. This allows me to offer a gentle, silent and motionless treatment that supports canine oral health, as part of a holistic approach to animal wellbeing.

I also provide a range of pet care services, including pet sitting, drop-in visits, dog walking and equine care. Whether your dog needs a carefully managed walk, your horse requires experienced daily care, or your pets simply need companionship while you're away, you can trust them to be well looked after. Every animal is cared for with patience, kindness and attention to their individual needs.

“With a strong background in canine sports, I understand the unique demands placed on working and performance animals — and know that building trust with animals of all temperaments is at the heart of everything I do.”

My Approach to Animal Care

At HLG Veterinary Physiotherapy, I believe treatment should be about more than simply addressing an injury. It is about understanding the whole animal and identifying the factors affecting their movement and wellbeing. From there, I create a realistic plan that helps them thrive both now and in the future.

I have a particular passion for supporting senior dogs, helping them maintain strength, mobility and independence for as long as possible. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing an older dog become more comfortable, more confident and able to enjoy the activities they love again.

I am equally passionate about working with sporting dogs. I help build strength, reduce the risk of injury, and support them to meet the physical demands of competition. Because of my strong background in canine sports, I understand the dedication and preparation it takes to keep canine athletes healthy, fit and performing at their best.

“Whether I am helping a sporting dog return to competition or supporting a senior companion through arthritis management, my aim is always the same — to help every animal feel, move and perform at their best.”
