Expertise in Equine Physiotherapy

I provide advanced, evidence-based equine physiotherapy and rehabilitation across Basildon and surrounding Essex areas, supporting horses across a range of conditions including:

  • Injury recovery
  • Post-operative rehabilitation
  • Neurological conditions
  • Chronic pain management
  • Sports conditioning for performance enhancement

Naturally, every horse is different, which is why my approach focuses on meticulous assessment, close communication with your veterinary surgeon and other paraprofessionals, and the development of highly individualised rehabilitation and conditioning plans, tailored to your horse’s needs and lifestyle.

In addition, each consultation allows ample time for detailed assessment, targeted hands-on treatment, the development of a structured rehabilitation plan and home management advice.

Following each session, you will receive a comprehensive written report with clear recommendations, progressive home exercises and ongoing support to help you feel confident managing your horse’s recovery between appointments.

What Happens During Your Horse’s Initial Equine Physiotherapy Consultation?

Essentially, your horse’s first appointment is designed to give me a complete understanding of their health, movement and individual needs, allowing me to create a personalised treatment and rehabilitation plan.

Initial Information Gathering

Before your appointment, I will gather background information about your horse, including medical history, previous injuries, surgeries, current medications, and any other relevant details. When required, I will liaise with your veterinary surgeon and any other professionals involved in your horse’s holistic care, such as your farrier, saddle fitter or dentist, to ensure I have the fullest clinical picture.

Comprehensive Assessment

First, the consultation begins with a discussion about your horse’s clinical and behavioural history, current concerns, exercise routine and daily management. I will then carry out a comprehensive physiotherapeutic assessment, evaluating posture, conformation, musculature, movement quality, neurological function and joint health to identify the factors influencing their mobility, comfort and performance.

Treatment and Tailored Rehabilitation Plan

Using the findings from the assessment, I will provide targeted physiotherapy treatment based on your horse’s individual needs and the goals we establish together. Depending on the case, treatment may include massage, stretching, myofascial release, joint mobilisations, PEMF therapy, Photizo therapy, and hot or cold therapy where appropriate.

Following treatment, we’ll develop a bespoke rehabilitation or conditioning programme designed to encourage correct movement patterns, promote healing, improve strength and support long-term soundness, mobility and performance. You’ll also receive practical home and yard management advice to help your horse continue progressing between appointments.

Written Reports and Veterinary Collaboration

Finally, after your appointment, you’ll receive a detailed written report summarising the assessment findings, treatment provided and your horse’s personalised exercise programme. Where appropriate, I can also liaise directly with your veterinary surgeon and any other professionals involved in your horse’s care, ensuring a coordinated and collaborative approach to your horse’s ongoing rehabilitation.

Electrotherapeutic Modalities

Supporting your horse’s rehabilitation with evidence-based therapies – Where Clinically Indicated

My primary base is in Essex, though I’m happy to travel further afield upon request. I also cover occasional appointments in Thetford, where I regularly travel for my own horses’ training. Additionally, this map offers a general guide to travel zones — if you’re ever unsure, please get in touch and I’ll be happy to provide a personalised quote.

Please note: appointments involving travel into London, or across the Dartford Crossing, will require a personalised quote. This is due to the Dart Charge and the potential for significantly longer journey times over short distances, so please get in touch and I’ll be happy to confirm a final price.

Important Information

Veterinary Consent

In accordance with the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966, veterinary physiotherapy for animals with a diagnosed medical condition or following surgery requires consent from your veterinary surgeon.

If your horse has an existing injury, medical condition, lameness, or is currently under veterinary care, then I will need to obtain your vet’s consent before treatment can begin. After that, simply provide your veterinary practice’s details on the patient registration form, and I will liaise with them directly on your behalf to arrange this.

Legalities

Importantly, by completing the patient registration form you are confirming you have read, understood, and agree to the practice’s Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy, and that you’re happy for treatment to proceed.

Please contact me if you have any questions.
